Teach Your Monster to Read
http://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/
A fun and interactive site for early learners to practice the various stages of reading. The website is British, but the accents are not difficult to understand. We tested this site with some younger students in the resource room and they really liked it!

Comprehension Resources
Into the Book
http://reading.ecb.org/
This is one of my favorite free literacy resources. Students select a comprehension strategy like inferences, predictions, and making connections, and then enter a series of interactive and colorful activities to practice the skill. Students love it and feel like they are playing a game while learning!
Read Works
www.readworks.org
Free, research-based K-6 reading comprehension lesson plans and non-fiction reading passages & question sets. You can search for passages by grade level and skill. These are great for independent practice

Websites that Address Multiple Literacy Components
Florida Center for Reading Research
http://www.fcrr.org/curriculum/SCAindex.shtm
This amazing website provides hundreds of free printable student center activties for grades K-5 to practice phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary and fluency. I typically just print and laminate these to keep and reuse. They are great!
Storylineonline
www.storylineonline.net
Sponsored by the Screen Actors Guild, these site contains free videos of actors reading a variety of engaging children's books.
Raz-kids
www.raz-kids.com
This is a paid program and I was able to purchase a membership through the school this year. Teachers can create a roster of students and select each student's individual instructional reading level. The students can log in and gain access to online stories at their level. They have to listen to, practice reading, and then correctly answer comprehension questions in order to "pass" each story. This site is great for fluency practice, and it also allows teachers to print reports to see what types of comprehension questions students might be struggling with (main idea, inferences, etc.). The students in my small groups have all been using it, and I have seen tremendous growth in the students who use this program consistently. We have spaces left, so please contact me if you have students you feel would benefit from this.
Reading rockets
